StormRoom™ with Kevlar®
The StormRoom™ with
Kevlar® uses the same material found in bullet-resistant
vests that help protect the police and military forces. This
storm shelter is the newest innovation from DuPont, a company
known for bringing the world miracles of science.
The
DuPont StormRoom™ with Kevlar® is a residential in-home
storm shelter, available in several rectangular configurations,
that features the incredible strength of DuPont™ Kevlar® Sheathing
built inside reinforced wall panels. When properly installed,
the shelter literally acts as a safety net, helping to stop and
deflect windborne debris, the greatest threat from a tornado. |

From the moment a tornado
touches down, the storm's circulation begins to pick up and throw
out all kinds of debris. A two-by-four building timber from a damaged
or destroyed structure, accelerated at more than 100 miles per
hour, is one of the most common and deadly threats.
The DuPont StormRoom™ with
Kevlar® complies with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's
(FEMA) National Performance Standard for Tornado Shelters. In a
series of tests conducted by an independent lab, the engineered
panels built into the DuPont StormRoom™ with Kevlar® were
able to deflect a 12-foot, 15-pound two-by-four piece of wood shot
out of a cannon at 100 miles per hour. This represents the speed
that a 250 miles per hour wind during a tornado would propel the
timber.
